First Ukrainian woman enters Berlin Parliament
Liliya Usik is the first Ukrainian woman in history to become a member of the Berlin parliament.
Usik will help Ukrainians in Berlin, Deutsche Welle reports.
Liliia ran for the Chamber of Deputies of the German capital from the Christian Democratic Union party, which Angela Merkel previously belonged to, and passed by direct mandate.
Liliia comes from Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region. She came to Germany 12 years ago to study and later started working in the Bundestag in the offices of various deputies.
She took care of Ukraine and human rights in the Bundestag. After the occupation of Crimea, she started working with media, fake news, defense, and security topics.
She will officially start work as a deputy on March 16.
