EU extended all economic sanctions against russia for another six months
The Council of the EU on Friday decided to extend restrictive measures directed against certain sectors of the russian economy for six months until July 31, 2023.
The press service of the Council of the EU reported this.
These sanctions were first introduced in 2014 in response to russia's actions that destabilized the situation in Ukraine. They were significantly expanded from February 2022 in connection with russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine.
Currently, the sanctions consist of a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport, and luxury goods.
They also include:
- ban on the import or transport by sea of crude oil and certain petroleum products from russia to the EU,
- disconnection of several russian banks from SWIFT
- suspension of broadcasts and licenses of several kremlin-backed disinformation media.
