World-famous locations turned off lights to show solidarity and boost Ukraine fundraising

As part of the #LightUpUkraine project, which aims to raise funds through the United24 platform to purchase generators for Ukrainian hospitals, on December 21, world-famous locations temporarily turned off their lights as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

The United24 fundraising platform's press service reported this.

As noted, a total of 62 well-known locations around the world turned off the lights as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine to call on their visitors to join the fundraising effort.

Among the locations that joined the initiative are:

  • Roman Colosseum and Sydney Opera House,
  • the building of the European Parliament in Brussels and the Parliament of Scotland in Edinburgh,
  • City Hall of Paris and Porto,
  • New York's main Christmas trees near Rockefeller Center, as well as in Prague, Riga, Sofia, Wroclaw, etc.

In particular, the illumination of Niagara Falls was also turned off. After dark, it was lit in blue and yellow to raise awareness of power outages in Ukraine.

As a sign of support for the Ukrainians, the lights were also turned off in the EU Council building.

And they also turned off the Christmas tree lighting on the Old Town Square in Prague.

In New York, the lights on the Christmas tree near the Rockefeller Center were also turned off as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the United for Ukraine international parliamentary coalition became partners in this project.
