US does not expect end of war in Ukraine by end of the year — White House
The administration of US President Joe Biden does not expect the war in Ukraine to end by the end of the year or by the end of winter.
This was reported on Twitter by the USA Today reporter Joe Harrison, who quotes the official representative of the White House, John Kirby.
The White House's John Kirby on Russia's War in Ukraine: "We have no expectation that the fighting will stop in the winter months to come. So no indications, certainly no expectations, that by year's end there will be an end of war."

"We do not expect hostilities to stop in the coming winter months. Moreover, there are no indications or expectations that the end of the war will come before the end of the year," he said.
As Kirby stated, the American side would like the war to end, if not today, then by the end of the year. But this is extremely unlikely considering the situation on the ground.
He stressed: "Both sides are still fighting fiercely in Donbas, especially in and around Bakhmut — a small area compared to some of the other battles in Ukraine over the past nine months, but with very intense fighting. The russians are also taking up defensive positions throughout the south, and the Ukrainians continue to advance. There is active fighting now, and we expect it to continue for some time into the future."
In his opinion, despite the winter cold, hostilities are unlikely to stop in the coming months.
