Award named after Senator McCain was given to women of Ukraine

The John McCain Award for Leadership in Public Service was given to the women of Ukraine this year.

According to the correspondent of European Pravda, the award was given by Jack McCain, the son of the late senator, as part of the International Security Forum in Halifax.

During the presentation of the award, it was noted that 15% of the Armed Forces are women, and that they also do other work for victory under enemy fire.

"Ukraine's women have unwittingly become heroines with courage, honour and dignity that have inspired the world," McCain said.

At the women's forum, Ukraine was represented by First Lady Olena Zelenska, who spoke to the participants in the format of a video address. In her speech, Zelenska mentioned that there is a John McCain street in Kyiv.

In his turn, Jack McCain recalled that his father "has long spoken of the need to contain Putin, supporter of KGB [Committee for State Security of Soviet Union]."

The John McCain Award for Leadership in Public Service is presented annually at the Halifax International Security Forum to individuals from any country who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the pursuit of human justice.
