Scholz at G20: russia must withdraw troops from Ukraine
russia must understand that it must end the war and withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this while commenting on the first day of discussions at the G20 summit in Indonesia, Ukrinform reports.
"Now it is important that russia stops its aggressive war and withdraws its troops. This is the basis for achieving a situation in which it is possible to talk about peace, but it will not be peace dictated by russia. Ukraine will not accept this, and – we can say today – neither will the world community… Ultimately, there has to come to a point when russia sees and recognizes that it needs to get out of this situation now. One requirement is the withdrawal of troops," Scholz said.
According to him, the russians made it clear at the summit that this war of aggression is not acceptable, and it is necessary to carefully consider its impact on the rest of the world in terms of the threat of famine and energy prices and do everything to prevent this negative impact. At the same time, the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons was clearly stated.
Scholz said that the summit participants have a consensus on these issues. At the same time, he admitted that "there are other views" in the world.
According to the German government head, it is important to continue dialogue, contacts, and conversations with everyone, including russia, even if the parties see the situation differently.
The chancellor of the German Federal Republic also commented on the words of the head of the Foreign Ministry of the russian federation, Sergei Lavrov, that he allegedly spoke with Scholz.
"He stood next to me and said two sentences. It was a conversation," the German politician noted.
