Iran is seeking russia's help to boost its nuclear program — CNN
US intelligence officials believe Iran is seeking russia's help to boost its nuclear weapons program.
CNN reports this.
According to intelligence reports, Iran has sought russia's help in acquiring additional nuclear materials and producing nuclear fuel, which can power its nuclear reactors and potentially further shorten Iran's so-called "breakthrough time" for nuclear weapons.
CNN emphasizes that the Iranian offer to moscow appeared against the background of the expansion of the partnership between Iran and russia. It involved Tehran sending drones and other equipment to the russian federation for use in the war against Ukraine in recent months. moscow could advise Iran on the suppression of protests raging in the country.
US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson noted that the United States would make every effort to prevent russia and Iran from cooperating in the nuclear sector.
"We are working with partners to expose and hold the growing ties between Iran and russia to account. We will firmly oppose any cooperation that runs counter to our non-proliferation goals," she said.
