EU will supply electricity to Ukraine in the event of shortage due to shelling — European Commission
If the russians continue to fire missiles at the energy infrastructure and there is an electricity shortage in Ukraine, the EU countries will supply it.
Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, said this in an interview with UNIAN.
"We have the necessary prerequisites for the EU to supply electricity to Ukraine. The first step was taken back in March when we synchronized the Ukrainian energy grid with the network of continental Europe (ENTSO-E – ed.) in two weeks, which many doubted," she said.
Simson explained that in this system, electricity could be transmitted in both directions — Ukraine can both export and import electricity from the EU.
"Obvious countries that could sell electricity to Ukraine are, of course, its closest neighbors.
The capacity for trade limits the volumes that these countries can supply, agreed upon within the framework of the European energy grid ENTSO-E. But, according to Simson, the European Commission continues to work closely with them to increase this limit.
