Ukraine can count on Italy's support – new PM Meloni

The leader of the right-wing party Brothers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, after winning the elections, pledges to continue supporting Ukraine

She wrote about this on Twitter in response to President Volodymyr Zelensky's congratulations on her election victory.

"Dear President Zelensky, you know that you can count on our loyal support for the cause of freedom of Ukrainian people. Stay strong and keep your faith steadfast!" Meloni wrote.

In the parliamentary elections held in Italy on September 25, the right-wing coalition and the parties "friends of putin" won in both houses of the parliament.

The Fratelli d'Italia or Brothers of Italy party received its historically highest result and gained the most votes with 26%. This party has an image of right-wing radicals and "neo-fascists" in the EU, which it is now trying to get rid of. In particular, it supported Ukraine during the war.

Their associates, Matteo Salvini's League and Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia, whose leaders are known for supporting russia, scored 9% and 8%, respectively.

As Rubryka reported earlier, Zelensky met with the Minister of Defense of Italy. He noted that the situation in Ukraine remains very important for Italy. Italian partners support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state.

"For Italy, despite a large number of internal issues, the situation in Ukraine remains essential. We feel constant support for our sovereignty and territorial integrity, the struggle for our existence from Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the government, and the Italian people," he emphasized.

The President thanked Lorenzo Guerini for the "meaningful meeting," stressing that strengthening the Ukrainian forces is a vital priority for Ukraine today.
