British PM calls putin's nuclear blackmail "saber-rattling"
British Prime Minister Liz Truss called russian president putin's nuclear threats "saber-rattling," the Guardian reports.
In a speech at the UN General Assembly, she stated this blackmail "will not work."
Truss spoke a few hours after the remote speech of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
At the beginning of the speech, Liz Truss noted that geopolitics had entered a new era, which requires a moral and decisive position from countries that believe in the fundamental principles of the UN.
"This morning, we have seen Putin trying to justify his catastrophic failures. He is doubling down by sending even more reservists to a terrible fate. He is desperately trying to claim the mantle of democracy for a regime without human rights or freedoms. And he is making yet more bogus claims and saber-rattling threats. This will not work," Liz Truss emphasized.
She also promised to maintain and increase military support for Ukraine as long as necessary.
The prime minister urged the countries' leaders not to make any compromises in favor of russia, despite the difficulties due to sky-high energy prices.

She devoted a separate part of her speech to the confrontation between democratic and authoritarian models of the state.
She noted that democracies, to prove their viability and superiority, must find a way to ensure the well-being and security of their citizens.
Earlier, in a joint statement with the president of the European Commission, Truss called putin's decision to mobilize evidence of the failure of russia's invasion of Ukraine.
During his speech, putin said that it was the russians who were allegedly being threatened with nuclear weapons. He threatened that in the event of a threat, the russian federation is ready "to use all available means. This is not a bluff."
President Volodymyr Zelensky replied that Ukraine does not plan to cancel the liberation of the occupied territories, even despite putin's nuclear threats.
