Fighting continues on outskirts of Lyman in Donetsk Oblast, says mayor
Fighting continues on the outskirts of the town of Lyman in Donetsk Oblast, which has been under Russian occupation since late May, local mayor Oleksandr Zhuravliov told Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne on Sept. 10.
"The Russian military is still resisting," he said.
"Our flag is not there yet. We have to wait a little bit."
The town of Lyman was occupied by Russian troops on May 30, 2022. It is located in the north of Donetsk Oblast, 50 kilometers from the town of Izyum in Kharkiv Oblast, which was reportedly liberated on Sept. 10.
The battle is part of a cascading collapse of Russian defenses along much of the northern front, seemingly triggered by a rapid Ukrainian offensive into occupied Kharkiv Oblast on Sept. 9.
