Can you compost poisonous invasive plants? Rubryka explains
The ecologist talked about the rules of how to remove harmful and poisonous plants from the ground
Because of the deterioration of the environment, the number of harmful species of invasive plants increases in Ukraine: they survive better in polluted soils and shortage of water.
Such plants can be harmful to humans; some of them are poisonous. Sosnowsky hogweed, Canadian goldenrod, and common milkweed are the most common species.
Ecologist, an employee of Zoology Institute at Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences and Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group chief Oleksii Vasyliuk told Rubryka that such plants must be removed from the ecosystem, at least if they grow on your land plot. So you can prevent their reproduction. However, there are specific rules:
- You need to remove them right before the seeds ripen and the plant begins to bear fruit.
- The best thing to do with the plant after extraction is compost. At the exit, you will receive helpful organic matter.
