Ukraine to have first security guarantees document soon

The first document on international security guarantees for Ukraine may appear as early as August 29–30.
RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the head of the Office of the President Andrii Yermak at the briefing after a meeting with the advisers of the leaders of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Hungary.
"We consider security guarantees a critical issue. We constantly talk about it with all our partners. Today it was also a topic of discussion, and I'm glad our partners are showing interest. By the end of this month—I think it's the 29th or 30th [of August]—we can count on the first document and our group's recommendations with Mr. Rasmussen. We are currently working on this document," he said.
He has already read the text, and it will be "a compelling document."
In late July, the international working group on security guarantees for Ukraine, co-chaired by the head of the Office of the President Andrii Yermak and former NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, held its second meeting.
As noted, the participants discussed the draft plan of recommendations regarding future international security guarantees for Ukraine.
The group believes that NATO and Article 5 of the Washington Treaty remain the gold standard for security guarantees. In this regard, the course for membership in the Alliance is enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine.
In the interim period, until Ukraine becomes a full member of NATO, the main guarantee will be its ability to deter future aggression and, if necessary, to defend itself and restore its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.
However, according to the group, Ukraine will need an interconnected system of multilateral and bilateral duly ratified agreements between Ukraine and the guarantor states to achieve this.
