"Love Letters": wreaths with words of support for the residents of the temporarily occupied territories were sent down Dnipro river on Ivan Kupala
As part of the "Love Letters" project, the organizers collected several thousand messages with words of support for those who are currently in temporarily occupied territories via the website lettersoflove.org.ua. Every possible delivery method will be used to get the letters to temporarily occupied territories. The first symbolic step is to send letters on flower wreaths on the evening of Ivan Kupala.
The idea is based on an ancient Ukrainian tradition, when girls wove flower wreaths and sent them down a river. If wreaths reached their beloved on the other bank of the river, it was considered a good sign for their relationship. Similarly, "Love Letters" symbolize an inseparable emotional bond between Ukrainians in different regions and are intended to support those who are under temporary occupation.
"Sending the wreaths from Kyiv is more of a symbolic step," says Daria Lyubimova, a representative of the project organizers. — We sent more than 500 flower wreaths with wishes for a soon meeting, words of support and love from the banks of the Dnipro river just 8 kilometers from the temporarily occupied Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. There one can quite literally see the other side, and we know that these wreaths will reach those whom we want to support so much. When creating the idea, we consulted with people in temporarily occupied territories and realized that even the very fact that someone writes a letter for them, that someone cares and remembers about them is already great support and gives them strength."
The "Love Letters" project is part of a large-scale communication campaign to support residents of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, created by the Gres Todorchuk agency with the assistance of non-government organization SVOI, public organization Youth Initiative and foundation UNION. "Love Letters" is the first project within the framework of a large campaign to support residents of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The next steps are fundraising and offline events, which will aim to keep this topic in the constant focus of attention of Ukraine and the world.
