Scotland and Wales allocate additional military aid to Ukraine for £100 million

Scotland and Wales, which are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, decided to allocate a total of 100 million pounds for military aid to Ukraine

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this on the evening of July 4.

As Johnson noted, the Welsh government allocated 35 million, and Welsh families took in 3,000 forced refugees from Ukraine.

Another 65 million pounds was allocated by Scotland, which also announced its readiness to accept refugees from Ukraine.

"I thanked the Scottish Government's £65 million contribution in upping UK's military aid to Ukraine to £2.3 billion & efforts to help house 6,000 Ukrainian refugees," Johnson wrote in the message.

The UK's assistance to Ukraine

On June 30, Great Britain announced that they allocated another 1 billion pounds (over 1.2 billion dollars) of military aid to Ukraine.

The money should go to:

  • air defense systems,
  • drones,
  • equipment for electronic warfare,
  • "thousands of vital equipment" for the Ukrainian military.

Johnson's office said the additional equipment was the first step toward Ukraine being able to go on the offensive against russian ground forces and regain its sovereignty.

We should note that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is one of the world leaders who most support Ukraine's fight against the aggressor.

As of February 24, his country provided Kyiv with:

  • anti-tank missiles,
  • air defense systems,
  • and other weapons.

Great Britain is among the leaders in introducing sanctions against russia, its regime, and russian business.
