russia's ships moved away from Ukrainian coast after strike on Moscow cruiser, mass media say

The United States has observed that russian ships operating in the northern Black Sea near the Moscow cruiser have retreated south of the Ukrainian coast.

CNN reported this with reference to a senior official of the US Department of Defense.

"We noticed that the other Black Sea ships operating near Moscow cruiser or in the northern part of the Black Sea all moved further south after the damage suffered by Moscow. It means all ships moved away from areas where they operated," the official said.

He also echoed Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby's comments that the United States had no information on the cause of the Moscow cruiser's damage.

The United States believes that the ship suffered significant damage, but knows nothing about the victims among the crew.

The United States suggests that the ship remained buoyant and went on its own, probably to Sevastopol for repairs.
