RuTraсker will block access for users from Russia
The RuTracker torrent platform has spoken out against Russia's war in Ukraine and will block access for Russian users.
Forbes reported this.
RuTracker is currently blocked by Roskomnadzor. The State Duma and the Russian government are considering legalizing "piracy."
A RuTracker.org advocate said the platform "does not support any action by the Russian authorities in the current situation."
Therefore, access will be blocked for users from Russia, even if Roskomnadzor removes the site from the register of banned.
Even with restrictions from foreign online cinemas, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Megogo, traffic on pirate platforms is not growing, owner of the resource ZETFLIX.zone said to Forbes.
Queries from search engines Yandex and Google have been falling for the last 3-4 years because of the blocking of Roskomnadzor and the anti-piracy memorandum of Yandex. Increasingly, users are using VPNs, as most sites and social media accounts are excluded from Russian searches.
Kommersant reports that in 2021 access was limited to 59 thousand pirated sites and their copies ("mirrors"). This is almost twice as much as in 2020.
The main problem of the pirate market is the loss of advertisers. 90% of all agencies stopped operating in Russia and Ukraine. User fees don't collect even 10% of the required monthly amount, so the issue of funding is now very acute.
