Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese has said the government plans to house Ukrainian refugees in real estate confiscated from the mafia. According to the latest data, about 28,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Italy.

This was reported by Corriere della Sera.

According to the Minister, 283 real estate objects confiscated from a criminal organization were identified for long-term accommodation.

Refugees will have access to health care, children will go to school, and adults will receive work permits.

Italy is leading the process under the EU's Temporary Protection Directive, a document developed in 2001 but only activated earlier this month, which allows EU member states to provide immediate protection to Ukrainian refugees.
