Dniester hydro station became the largest in Europe
Ukrhydroenergo has put into operation the fourth hydro unit of the Dniester PSP with a capacity of 324 MW.
The company's press service reported this.
The total installed capacity of the Dniester PSP reached 1,296 MW in generator mode and 1,684 MW in pumping mode.
The plant will consist of seven hydraulic units with a total capacity of 2,268 MW, which puts it in first place in Europe and sixth in the world.
"This is a significant event for the whole industry because, with a significant shortage of coal in TPP warehouses, an additional 324 MW is a factor that will contribute to energy stability and sustainability of the United Energy System," said Ukrhydroenergo CEO Ihor Syrota.
The company noted that the construction of a hydroelectric storage station on the Dniester, first, makes it possible to use surplus cheap night electricity to pump water in the pump mode to high levels in the upper reservoir and operate it in turbine mode during peak hours to generate electricity which provides balanced operation of nuclear power plants.
