Ukrainian ice cream production has grown by 3%: where it's produced, and which is the most popular
The most popular type of ice cream among Ukrainians is classic ice cream. Second place in popularity is taken by popsicles.
In the first five months of this year, ice cream production in Ukraine increased by 3% to 61,600 liters. This was reported in the State Food and Consumer Service.
"It's great that Ukrainian producers are showing production growth. This has a positive effect on the country's economy as a whole," Vladyslava Mahaletska, the head of the department, said.
According to the Association of Ukrainian Producers, the largest regions producing ice cream are:
- Zhytomyr region (54.1% of the total production for five months of 2021);
- Kharkiv region (18.5%);
- Dnipropetrovsk region (11.2%);
- Lviv region (5.6%);
- Kirovohrad region (4.5%).
In total, more than 900 types of ice cream are produced in Ukraine. Ice cream with a combined composition is 55.4% of the total range; Plombières, 22.4%; cream, 11.3%; dairy, 1.8%; fruit and berry, 9.1%.
The most popular type of ice cream in Ukraine is the classic Plombières ice cream, both in individual and family packaging. This type of ice cream is bought by more than 80% of the population. Second place is taken by ice cream with fruit additives (about 40%).
Most often people buy ice cream in a waffle cup; second place in popularity is taken by the popsicle on a stick. The number of buyers of organic ice cream is also gradually growing.
Among the latest trends are the growth of sales of ice cream by weight on the street and the increase in demand for ice cream in large "family" packaging, from 0.5 to 2 kg.
Region-leader: in the Zhytomyr region, there's Zhytomyr Dairy Plant, which produces ice cream under the brand name "Rud," and Berdychiv has the main facilities of Kyiv production and trade company, which produces ice cream under the brand "Three Bears."
