White House: United States has not halted military aid to Ukraine

CNN

The United States provided full-fledged security assistance to Ukraine, as appropriated by Congress, and prepared contingency funds in the event of further Russian aggression.

The White House released a corresponding statement to comment on American media reports about the alleged "freezing" of the military aid package to Ukraine.

"The idea that we have held back security assistance to Ukraine is nonsense. Just last week—in the run-up to the U.S.-Russia Summit—we provided a $150 million package of security assistance, including lethal assistance," reads the statement.

As noted, the United States has now provided the entire amount appropriated by Congress through the Ukraine security assistance initiative.

It is underscored that two days before the summit in Geneva, President Biden said that the US would keep putting Ukraine "in the position to be able to continue to resist Russian physical aggression."

"We have also prepared contingency funds in the event of a further Russian incursion into Ukraine," the White House explained.

"As President Biden told President Putin directly, we will stand unwavering in support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," says the statement.

Earlier on Friday, the U.S. media outlet Politico reported, citing its own sources, that the U.S. presidential administration had decided to temporarily halt a military aid package to Ukraine that would include lethal weapons.
