Border guards detain two Germans who thought Ukraine was an EU member
Border guards of the Lviv patrol detained two German citizens who illegally crossed the border from Poland on bicycles.
The State Border Guard Service announced this, Rubryka reports.
Soldiers of the "Hrushiv" department recorded the operation of an alarm device at the border. A border patrol arrived on the scene and found two men on bicycles near the Ukrainian-Polish border.
It was later revealed that the offenders were 21- and 36-year-old German citizens. They had documents with them and explained that they traveled the world on bicycles.
This time their bike route ran from Germany to Thailand via Poland, Belarus, and Russia. They left Dusseldorf about two weeks ago.
The Germans decided to go straight from Poland to Ukraine because they thought that our country was part of the EU and it wasn't necessary to cross the border at checkpoints, border guards say.
At present, foreigners have been issued administrative documents for illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine.
