Mykolaiv port border guards detain record smuggling batch

Border guards detained a record smuggled cargo of consumer commodities that arrived in Ukraine in a foreign ship through the Mykolaiv port.

The State Border Guard Service informed about it, Rubryka reports. 

The top of the ship was indeed loaded with cement, under which more valuable goods were hidden. Tons of commodities, like shoes, tracksuits, swimwear, perfume, auto parts, and more.

The illegal cargo was discovered on May 17.

Approximately 13 tons of smuggled commodities arrived on the ship, according to the SBSU. As of 8 a.m., three-quarters of the containers of illegal goods have already been unloaded.

Investigative actions are currently underway and a circle of persons involved in the illegal deal is being established. The unloading of big bags (soft containers) with contraband goods continues.

After the relevant examinations and recalculation, the value amount of goods will be set.

SBSU Speaker Andrii Demchenko clarified that the ship under the Palau flag arrived in Ukraine from Turkey.
