In anticipation of integrity: what's wrong with congress of judges
Mutual guarantee, dishonesty, and lack of logic. Why the election of members of the High Council of Justice and the appointment of a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine should be postponed.
On March 9, judges from different regions will gather in Kyiv for a congress. They'll have two key tasks. First, appoint four members of the High Council of Justice. Second, to appoint a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
NGOs and activists are already going to picket the Congress of Judges. They insist it should be postponed so that people aren't elected to key judicial positions under the old system.
Interior Minister Arsen Avakov sent a letter to the Council of Judges, which is holding the congress. He recommended not to hold it in the House of Trade Unions on Independence Square, as previously planned, but to move it to the President Hotel. The Council of Judges listened to the Minister.
We found three major reasons the public is unconditionally against congress and why it should be postponed.
