Ukraine withdraws from CIS Treaty on Antimonopoly Policy
On November 26, Ukraine withdrew from the Treaty Treaty on Implementation of the Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy between the CIS member states.
The relevant law on withdrawal from the Treaty, signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, was published in the Golos Ukrainy newspaper on November 25.
According to the document, Ukraine withdraws from the Treaty on a Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy, signed at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow on January 25, 2000, and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with reservations by the law of January 16, 2003, № 449-IV.
The treaty contains mechanisms for exchanging information, so there is a risk that the CIS member states will receive information that they can use to exert trade and economic pressure on Ukraine.
Withdrawal from the Treaty will protect the national economic interests of Ukraine, eliminating the mechanism involving the interstate exchange of information on economic issues.
On November 23, Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the Law "On Withdrawal from the Treaty on Implementation of the Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy" № 995-IX, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on November 5, 2020.
