EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has assured that Europe will not ease pressure on Russia following the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.

She wrote this on X, Rubryka reports.

Kallas noted that more than 80 Ukrainian civilians had been killed in Russian attacks over two days. In addition, Russia has intensified its hybrid attacks against Europe, targeting both EU member states and NATO allies.

"Suspending sanctions on Russian diesel provides Moscow with more revenues to wage war. This is not the time to ease pressure on Russia, and Europe won't," the EU's top diplomat stressed.

She also noted that EU foreign ministers are expected to approve on Monday the largest package of sanctions targeting Russia's war machine since the start of the full-scale invasion.

What preceded this

The previous day, US President Donald Trump said he had spoken with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and reached an agreement with him on supplying Russian diesel fuel to the US and global markets.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that easing sanctions on Russia without lasting de-escalation agreements would only help Moscow prolong the war. He made the statement in response to Trump's decision to allow sales of Russian petroleum products.

The US president described the agreement with the Kremlin as beneficial to the United States and said he wanted to thank Vladimir Putin for it.
