"Every Russian drone can be stopped": Zelenskyi calls for stronger sanctions over foreign components in Russian UAVs

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi stated that the further escalation of Russian aerial terror largely depends on foreign companies whose components continue to reach the aggressor state. Russia uses these microelectronics and parts to produce drones and missiles.

According to Rubryka, the head of state shared this on Facebook, noting that on the night of October 2, Russia launched more than 100 strike drones at Ukraine, nearly 50 of which were jet-powered.

"Our defenders neutralized most of them, but unfortunately, there were strikes. In Kyiv, 'Shaheds' hit the Pivdennyi (South) Bridge several times. In the morning, a multi-story residential building was struck. Unfortunately, one person was killed. My condolences to the family and loved ones. In Kherson, the Russians 'defeated' a kindergarten; in Kharkiv, they attacked a grocery store, damaging an institute and critical infrastructure," the president informed.

According to Zelenskyi, Russian forces also struck high-rise residential buildings in Kramatorsk and Sumy.

Additionally, heavy shelling was targeted at the Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Poltava, and Rivne regions.

As of now, four people are reported injured as a result of the overnight Russian attack. Emergency and specialized services are working in all affected locations.

The president separately highlighted the role of foreign components in the manufacturing of Russian weapons. According to him, while Moscow attempts to localize the production of drones and missiles as much as possible, it cannot fully break its dependence on foreign supply chains.

"No matter how hard Moscow tries to localize the production of its drones and missiles fully, their escalation remains critically dependent on foreign components. These supply chains originate from Europe, the US, China, Japan, and many other countries. Most of these companies are well-known manufacturers, yet their components still make their way into Russia," Zelenskyi stressed.

He emphasized that the opportunity to disrupt the use of these components exists at the initial stages of weapon production.

"What is needed is political will from these countries. If the Kremlin chooses more strikes, sanctions must work and be tightened. Thank you to everyone who helps," Zelenskyi added.

Furthermore, around 5:00 a.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that Russian forces struck the Pivdennyi Bridge for the third time. Following the attack, public transport was suspended across the Pivdennyi, Paton, and Metro Bridges in the capital. Public transport routes were rerouted via the Darnytskyi Bridge.
