President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reacted to the Russian strike, noting that emergency responders and all necessary services are working on site in Kyiv where a Russian Shahed drone struck an ordinary school.
"Fortunately, children and teachers were in the shelter during the air raid alert—no injuries occurred. A fire broke out on the third floor of the school, partially destroying a wall and damaging windows and doors.
Russian scoundrels continue to attack our country's life, Ukrainian children, and our schools, and Russia must bear clear responsibility for this and face responses to its strikes. We count on additional pressure from partners on Russia and additional support packages for Ukraine. We are working on every such agreement. I thank everyone who helps Ukraine and Ukrainians!" the president emphasized.
Overnight on October 1, Russian forces also attacked Kyiv with drones. In the Solomianskyi district, fires broke out on the ground floor of a 16-story residential building and among parked vehicles, while a warehouse building caught fire in the Obolonskyi district.
Medics treated one injured individual at the scene.
Background
Overnight on October 1, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian regions with 107 Shahed-type strike UAVs and decoy drones, a significant portion of which were jet-powered. Air Defense Forces intercepted most enemy aerial targets, though strikes occurred across 11 locations.
Specifically, Russian troops struck Odesa, damaging infrastructure, alongside the roof and facade of two business center buildings, injuring one person.
Additionally, occupiers targeted the Mykolaiv region overnight and early in the morning with Shahed and Gerbera strike drones. In the Vesniane community, a 50-year-old man was killed, and a tractor was destroyed.
