Russian forces attack Ukraine with Zircon, ballistic missiles, and 152 drones: Ukraine's Air defense downs 109 targets

On the night of September 29, Russian forces deployed a Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missile, two Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, and 152 drones against Ukraine. Air defense neutralized 109 aerial targets.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported, according to Rubryka, that overnight on September 29 (starting from 6:00 p.m. on September 28), the enemy launched:
- A Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missile from Russia's Kursk region
- Two Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from Russia's Kursk region
- 152 strike UAVs—including Shahed types (82 jet-powered), Gerberas, and "Parodiya" decoy drones—from Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, alongside occupied Donetsk, Hvardiiske, and Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea
Defenders countering the air assault included:
- Aviation
- Anti-aircraft missile troops
- Electronic warfare and unmanned systems units
- Mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine
According to preliminary data as of 8:00 a.m., air defense shot down or suppressed 109 targets:
- One Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missile
- Two Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles
- 106 enemy UAVs, including Shahed and Gerbera types, alongside other drone models
Authorities recorded impacts of enemy air attack weapons at 24 locations, as well as falling debris at 16 sites.
The attack continues, with several enemy UAVs remaining in Ukrainian airspace, the Air Force added.
"Follow safety rules!" the military urged.
Background
As previously reported, Russian troops targeted Kyiv overnight with ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones. The attack damaged residential and non-residential buildings and an educational facility, while disrupting public transport routes:
- In the Solomianskyi district, missile debris fell in the courtyard of a residential building. At another location, the enemy strike damaged an administrative building. As Klychko reported, Russian forces also hit a building belonging to an educational facility in the same district.
- In the Pecherskyi district, the attack set a three-story non-residential building on fire. After 5:00 a.m., the Kyiv City Military Administration clarified that the building sustained structural damage.
- In the Obolonskyi district, a drone fell onto a roadway, where authorities worked to verify potential damage.
- In the Holosiivskyi district, debris crashed onto the roof of a five-story residential building, igniting a blaze. A direct hit on a six-story residential building injured one person, while emergency crews evacuated ten residents.
Additionally, in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region, a drone struck a private house, injuring two people.
