United to win: France to boost Ukraine's air defense with radars and interceptors

France will bolster Ukraine's air defense system by supplying radars and interceptor missiles.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the decision on X following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in New York, according to Rubryka.
During the talks, the two leaders discussed security matters and a winter support package for Ukraine.
They also agreed that France will strengthen Ukraine's air defense by providing radars and interceptors.
"We are reinforcing Ukraine's air defense with the signature of a contract for radar supplies, as well as the delivery of interceptors," the French president stated.
However, Macron did not specify the quantity, type of equipment, or the delivery timeline.
The two presidents paid special attention to threats facing the Ukrainian energy grid ahead of winter. According to Macron, during their in-depth conversation, he and Zelenskyi discussed the risks posed by Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
"Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure threaten to leave millions of families without heat and electricity. France will stand with Ukraine to help it get through the winter. The G7 energy format will also be mobilized to support it," the French president emphasized.
Macron also noted that he discussed support for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump. Among other topics, they addressed the prospect of an energy truce and the implementation of a moratorium in the Black Sea.
"This will be one of the points in negotiations that must resume and lead to a just and lasting peace," Macron concluded.
Meanwhile, following the meeting, Zelenskyi noted that Ukraine stands ready to secure additional SAMP/T air defense systems and missiles for them using financing available under the EU loan.
"We continue working on the possibility of manufacturing such air defense systems and their missiles in Ukraine, as well as on the joint FREYJA anti-ballistic program with our partners. We expect the first results this year. We are working to the maximum to strengthen protection for our people," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

Zelenskyi arrived in New York to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
During his visit, the Ukrainian president has scheduled about 20 meetings. In particular, he plans to hold talks with the US president and European leaders and meet with members of Congress. Planned activities also include signing a new Drone Deal and discussing the further strengthening of Ukraine's air defense.
