United to win: Netherlands unveils 2027 defense budget with over €3 bln for Ukraine

The Netherlands plans to allocate more than 3 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine in 2027.
The support will include maintenance of donated weapons, unmanned systems, and air defense equipment, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced the plans while presenting the country's defense budget for next year, Rubryka reports.
The ministry stressed that continued military support for Ukraine remains critical as Russian attacks intensify. The defense budget specifically allocates funding for:
- Maintaining and repairing weapons systems that the Netherlands has already supplied to Ukraine
- Supplying unmanned systems and air defense equipment
The Netherlands' total defense budget for 2027 will amount to approximately 28.9 billion euros.
The country also plans to expand its own defense capabilities. It intends to spend approximately 14.1 billion euros on purchasing and maintaining military equipment, advancing innovation, and developing defense infrastructure.
The Netherlands plans to invest this funding in:
- Air and missile defense
- Counter-drone systems
- Ammunition
- Replenishing military stockpiles
The Dutch government had previously set a target for military aid to Ukraine over the coming years. It plans to maintain support at approximately €3 billion annually from 2027 through 2029.
Background
The Netherlands has previously brought forward aid spending earmarked for later periods. This summer, Defense Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius announced the allocation of 437 million euros from such funds.
