EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the European Union plans to present a new sanctions package against Russia in the coming months. According to her, it could become the largest since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to Rubryka, Reuters reported, citing Kallas' interview with Die Welt, that the EU foreign policy chief said the European Union plans to expand sanctions against Russia in the coming months significantly.
She stressed that the restrictions already imposed have caused major damage to Russia's economy and war machine.
"EU sanctions have already cost Russia dearly, depriving the Russian war machine of more than 1 trillion euros, and for the autumn I am putting forward the most extensive list of sanctions since the start of the war," Kallas said.
According to her, after the new package is introduced, the total number of Russian entities under EU sanctions will immediately increase by one-third.
"After they are introduced, the total number of sanctioned Russian entities will immediately increase by one-third.
Pressure must increase until Moscow ends its war," Kallas emphasized.
At the same time, she did not disclose details about the timing of the new restrictions or their content.

According to officials, it "deals a powerful blow to Russia's energy sector, financial sector and cryptocurrency sphere."
As the EU prepares to tighten sanctions against Russia further, Ukraine's partners are taking similar steps.
In particular, the US Senate approved Lindsey Graham's bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia and Iran. As Rubryka reported in May 2025, Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a bipartisan bill in Congress that would impose new sanctions on Russia. In particular, Graham proposes imposing secondary tariffs at a single rate of 500% on any country that buys Russian oil, gas, uranium, or other goods.
Separately, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced a new round of sanctions targeting individuals and organizations that support Russia's war against Ukraine. The list includes, in particular, individuals and organizations involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children.
Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs also introduced new sanctions against Russia over its war against Ukraine. Under the decision, nine individuals and 45 organizations were added to Annex 8 of the sanctions list. In addition, Switzerland updated information on another 11 individuals and organizations already included in the relevant lists.
