The Security Service of Ukraine said it carried out a successful drone strike on the Saky and Hvardiiske military airfields in temporarily occupied Crimea. The attack hit at least seven Russian aircraft, as well as hangars containing drones and aviation equipment.

The Security Service of Ukraine reported, as cited by Rubryka, that the drone strikes took place as part of a 40-day operation to exert pressure on Russia, carried out on the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

In particular, at the Saky airfield, drones hit seven hangars where aviation equipment was stored. According to the security service, Su-30SM and Su-30 fighter jets, as well as Su-24 frontline bombers, were located there.

According to preliminary information, the strike destroyed or damaged at least seven aircraft.

The Security Service of Ukraine noted that this was the second strike on the Saky airfield this week.

The Hvardiiske military airfield was also hit. According to the security service, strikes were recorded on two hangars containing Shahed-type drones and aviation equipment.

The Security Service of Ukraine stressed that the Saky and Hvardiiske airfields are among the key aviation bases of Russian occupation forces in Crimea. Russian tactical aircraft regularly take off from these sites to launch missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian territory and support Russian military operations in the southern sector.

The head of the agency, Yevhenii Khmara, said the security service would continue to systematically strike Russia's military potential by destroying aircraft, logistics, warehouses, equipment, and infrastructure.

"The Security Service of Ukraine continues to carry out the tasks set by the President of Ukraine and systematically reduce Russia's military potential. Each of our special operations means fewer enemy aircraft, fewer logistics, fewer warehouses, fewer pieces of equipment, and less infrastructure supporting Russian aggression. We will continue to put maximum pressure on the enemy both on the front line and deep in the rear, depriving it of the ability to wage war against Ukraine," he stressed.

Background

It should be noted that on July 1, the Security Service of Ukraine reported a successful strike on the Saky military airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea. Drones hit hangars that may have contained Russian Su-30 and Su-30SM fighter jets.

As Rubryka wrote, on June 1, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine struck four Russian military airfields at once. The facilities were deep in the rear, hundreds of kilometers from Ukraine's border. The strikes targeted the Belaya airfield in the Irkutsk region, Olenya in the Murmansk region, Dyagilevo in Ryazan, Ryazan region, and Ivanovo in the Ivanovo region.

At least 41 aircraft of the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 types, as well as an A-50, are known to have been hit.
