In Kharkiv, staff at the city animal shelter, together with volunteers, have sewn warm clothing for the most vulnerable dogs to keep them warm in the cold.
The press service of the Kharkiv City Council reported this.
What is the solution?
According to the city council, the Kharkiv animal shelter now provides warm sweaters for its short-haired dogs. In total, volunteer sewists and shelter staff have sewn approximately 100 garments to help protect the animals from the cold.
How does it work?
To create the sweaters, shelter staff and volunteers repurposed warm clothing that Kharkiv residents had previously donated to insulate kennels and enclosures. The donated garments were carefully selected and adapted to fit dogs most in need of protection from the cold.

The shelter is currently home to around 500 dogs and cats, all of which have been sterilized, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. Many of these animals are still waiting to be adopted into new homes.
Potential adopters can learn more about the shelter's four-legged residents by visiting the company's website or by stopping by in person at Aerokosmichny Avenue, 358. The shelter also hosts open days every Sunday, allowing the public to meet the animals firsthand.

For reference:
As Rubryka reported, the UAnimals organization has launched a campaign to collect warm clothing for animals in shelters struggling due to a lack of heating. Supporters are encouraged to join the initiative by sending donations directly to animal shelters in need.
Also, the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, together with UAnimals, provides guidance on how to help animals survive frost and strong winds. Experts advise:
- to arrange warm shelters on the street or near the entrance from blankets, boxes, or other improvised materials;
- to let animals into the entrance so that they can hide from the cold;
- to feed animals and provide access to water, which should be checked, because it freezes quickly in the cold;
- to check cars before a trip, because animals can hide near the wheels or under the hood;
- If possible, shelter the animal – this is the best salvation from the cold.
