On the night of May 24, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 14 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, 250 Shahed-type attack drones, and various drone simulators. Ukrainian air defense units successfully intercepted 6 ballistic missiles and shot down 128 drones. An additional 117 drones failed to reach their targets due to electronic warfare.

This was reported by Rubryka, citing the Telegram channel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the military, the invaders launched:

  • 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Taganrog, Yeysk, and Bryansk in Russia, as well as from occupied Crimea. These missiles targeted Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
  • 250 Shahed-type strike UAVs and various types of drone simulators from Bryansk, Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as occupied Crimea.

The Air Force reported that the main target of the attack was the capital, Kyiv.

For defense, the following units were involved:

  • Aviation
  • Anti-aircraft missile forces
  • Electronic warfare units
  • Mobile fire groups from the Air Force and other branches of the Defense Forces of Ukraine

As of 8:30 a.m., air defense forces had:

  • Shot down 6 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles over Kyiv
  • Neutralized 245 enemy Shahed UAVs and other drones across eastern, northern, southern, and central Ukraine: 128 were destroyed by fire, and 117 were disabled or diverted by electronic warfare without causing damage.

Six additional Russian drone simulators went off radar and were considered lost in location, without causing any harm.

According to the Air Force, the enemy attack affected the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

It is worth recalling that in the early hours of May 24, Russian forces launched a wave of attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding region, deploying around 20 Shahed drones and firing ballistic missiles. Ukrainian air defenses were active throughout the night, but debris from intercepted targets caused damage in several areas of the capital and the region. A total of ten people were reported injured.

In Kyiv, eight people sustained injuries. Two were hospitalized in the Dnipro district, and six received medical assistance in the Svyatoshyn district.

As of Saturday morning, emergency crews continued to respond to the aftermath of the attacks at multiple sites across the city:

  • Solomyansky district: A fire broke out in apartments on the fourth and fifth floors of a five-story residential building. The blaze was extinguished by 30 emergency responders using eight units of fire and rescue equipment. One man was rescued with a smoke hood and transferred to medics with a preliminary diagnosis of smoke inhalation.
  • Obolonskyi district: Fires broke out on the balconies of a nine-story residential building, specifically on the third and sixth floors. Rescuers evacuated three people to safety, while four others sought medical attention with signs of acute stress. The fire has been extinguished.
  • Sviatoshynskyi district: A fire occurred in a one-story non-residential building used for storing paint and varnish materials. The fire, caused by the Russian attack, was still being extinguished as of the morning.
