Rebuilding Ukraine: French philanthropists fund Chernihiv hospital restoration through UNITED24

The French foundation Mécénat Servier supported the reconstruction of a medical facility in Chernihiv. And in February 2025, the organization's representative Philippe Malet visited the hospital and saw the results of the first stage of reconstruction.

What is the problem?
Chernihiv District Hospital, which has been providing care for both children and adults for 67 years, suffered significant damage during the full-scale Russia's invasion.
According to medical director Volodymyr Chubach, part of the building was heavily damaged by Russian shelling. He said that an enemy aircraft flew over the area and launched several missiles, which struck near the hospital.
The missile attack destroyed the roof, shattered all the windows, and caused extensive damage to the doors and ceilings.
What is the solution?
In 2023, the French foundation Mécénat Servier supported the hospital's reconstruction by transferring funds through the UNITED24 initiative.
How does it work?
Today, the facility has completed several major upgrades:
- a new third floor has been built,
- the roof and all windows have been replaced.
In February 2025, a representative of the foundation, Philippe Malet, visited the hospital to see the results of the first stage of reconstruction. He expressed his satisfaction, saying he was very pleased that the essential work had already been completed.
"Soon, all employees of the institution will be able to return to work in comfortable conditions, and patients will receive timely medical care," added UNITED24.
It is worth noting that French businesses have shown strong interest in supporting the restoration of Ukraine's critical infrastructure. This is reflected in the high number of applications submitted to participate in recovery projects.
To date, 19 infrastructure projects worth a total of €200 million have been approved, with 17 French companies involved in their implementation.
French support also extends to other key sectors, including healthcare and energy. In the medical field, France is actively contributing to the development of Ukrainian healthcare institutions by:
- supplying modern medical equipment, including mammography machines,
- supporting the training of Ukrainian doctors,
- and financing the construction of the Superhumans Center in Odesa.
