Ukrainian foreign ministry reveals details of ceasefire discussions at upcoming Saudi Arabia meeting

During the upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian and American delegations will discuss the parameters of various ceasefire proposals.

This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine views the talks in Saudi Arabia as bilateral Ukrainian-American negotiations and considers them a "technical round, not a political one."

"The details and implementation of decisions already made at the political level will be discussed there," Tykhyi explained.

He noted that experts from both sides will work out the specifics of the proposed ceasefire regimes, including how they will function, who will oversee them, and how monitoring will be conducted.

Tykhyi also stressed that the Ukrainian side is unaware of how the American delegation plans to communicate with the Russians during the meeting.

"That is their choice. But we are preparing for the negotiations in Saudi Arabia as a bilateral Ukrainian-American matter," he added.

He clarified that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will not attend the meeting, as it is not being held at a "political level" and will focus instead on "military components."

As a reminder, the US President's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that during the negotiations in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian and Russian delegations will be in separate rooms, with discussions facilitated by the American side.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the meeting between Ukrainian and American diplomats will take place on March 24. According to Zelensky, the United States will first meet with Ukraine and then with Russia, but these meetings will occur in parallel and focus on the same topics.

The Ukrainian delegation participating in the upcoming talks will be the same as the group that met with US representatives in Saudi Arabia on March 11.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has outlined its own conditions for negotiations with the US on a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov, talks between the Russian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia may occur early next week.

Additionally, US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced that a new round of talks on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine will take place in the Saudi city of Jeddah on March 23.
