Russia strikes Hostomel: Rubryka photo correspondent documents attack’s aftermath

A photojournalist from Rubryka documented the aftermath of the Russian airstrike on Hostomel, which occurred on the night of March 19.

Upon the arrival of Rubryka's photojournalist, the town was recovering from the Russian strike. Volunteers and locals were actively cleaning up and providing boards and slabs to cover damaged windows.

Russian attack on the night of March 19

On the night of March 19, Russian forces launched an attack on Kyiv using 45 drones, with the airstrike lasting nearly six hours. In the Kyiv region's Bucha district, debris damaged 20 townhouses, 15 private homes, and 19 vehicles, resulting in injuries to two people.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Russian army launched another drone attack, with defenders shooting down eight UAVs. Despite these efforts, the attack resulted in a fire in Dnipro and two fires in the Pavlohrad district, where an infrastructure facility was damaged.

During the enemy drone attack, the occupiers targeted the railway power system in the Dnipropetrovsk region, leading to power outages in several areas. While addressing the damage, the region was struck again, but fortunately, there were no casualties.

On the evening of March 18, Russian forces struck the city of Sumy with an enemy drone hitting a healthcare facility. Later, they launched another drone attack on the Sumy region, causing damage to the roof of a hospital—the second healthcare facility affected that night.

In total, the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine on the night of March 19 with 145 Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles and simulator drones. They managed to shoot down 72 attack drones.
