Russian dictator sets truce terms in conversation with Trump: halt Ukraine’s mobilization and rearmament

In a conversation with US President Donald Trump, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin stated that any ceasefire must include halting Ukraine's mobilization and military rearmament. The discussion also covered "normalization of relations" and the exchange of prisoners of war.

Russian media reported this.

Today's conversation between Putin and Trump lasted more than 2.5 hours. The Kremlin has already issued several statements regarding their negotiations.

Thus, the Russian dictator traditionally emphasized Kyiv's inability to negotiate. In addition, Putin talked about the alleged crimes of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region.

"The key condition for preventing the escalation of the conflict should be the complete cessation of foreign military assistance and the provision of intelligence to Kyiv," the Kremlin said in a statement.

The US and Russian presidents also talked about the "normalization of relations" and exchanging prisoners of war.

In particular, it is reported that Putin told Trump about the preparation of an exchange of prisoners of war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine in the format of 175 by 175.

Additionally, Putin "responded positively" to Trump's proposal for a mutual 30-day moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure by both Ukraine and Russia and "issued the appropriate order to the military."

The two politicians also discussed the idea of a 30-day ceasefire on the front.

Meanwhile, the White House said that the leaders agreed to stop strikes on energy and infrastructure facilities and to a "naval ceasefire in the Black Sea."

Trump and Putin also talked about the Middle East. The parties discussed the need to stop the proliferation of strategic weapons and also agreed that Iran "should never be able" to destroy Israel.

For reference:

The two leaders had a phone conversation on March 18 after 4 p.m. Kyiv time. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were present at the White House during the discussion.

The dialogue lasted more than two hours. CNN, citing a Russian source, wrote that the two politicians' conversation went "very well."

Earlier, Donald Trump said that in a conversation with Putin, he wanted to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

"We want to see if we can end this war. Maybe we can, maybe we can't, but I think we have a very good chance," Trump said.

He also emphasized the concessions that will be considered in the ceasefire talks.

The conversation between Trump and Putin took place against the backdrop of talks on a possible 30-day ceasefire.
