Ukraine will receive over 1.4 billion Swedish kronor ($137.7 million) from Sweden to support reconstruction, development efforts, and urgent humanitarian needs.

The Swedish Minister for International Development, Benjamin Dowse, stated this, according to Reuters.

As the Swedish official noted, the package of measures, which is the largest civilian assistance program in Sweden's history, includes:

  • support for the restoration of destroyed infrastructure,
  • demining,
  • training of health workers.

"Support for Ukraine is a matter of solidarity, as well as Sweden's security. The last few weeks have been difficult. It has never been so clear that we can no longer take the support of Ukraine from the world for granted," the minister stressed.

For reference:

It should be noted that Sweden has been actively supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Its assistance includes financial, humanitarian, and military support. Stockholm provides significant amounts of funds through international organizations, supports displaced people, and also transfers humanitarian aid.

Sweden plans to allocate financial support to Ukraine in the amount of 63 million euros, or approximately 720 million kroner. Of these, 20 million euros will be directed to the development of the Ukrainian defense industry.

As noted, about 43 million euros will go to a number of multilateral initiatives launched to support Ukraine's armed forces. These may be initiatives from various coalitions, including those created within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (in the "Ramstein format").

Another 20 million euros are planned to be directed to the development of the defense industry according to the "Danish model". This mechanism involves the purchase of Ukrainian-made defense equipment.

For example, Denmark's previous support for this model allowed Ukraine to produce 18 artillery systems. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has already provided support worth approximately 57.4 billion Swedish kronor (almost 5 billion euros).

Sweden will also purchase Archoverropelled artillery systems and Arthur counter-battery radars for Ukraine under the 18th military aid package for almost $295 million.
