Ukraine-US talks in Saudi Arabia conclude with joint statement after delegation meeting

On March 11, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under the gracious hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the United States and Ukraine took significant steps toward achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine.

Representatives of both countries praised the courage of the Ukrainian people in defending their homeland. They agreed that now is the time to initiate the process of establishing a durable peace.

The Ukrainian delegation once again expressed deep gratitude, on behalf of the Ukrainian people, to President Trump, the US Congress, and the American people for their support in making significant progress on the path to peace.

Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal for the immediate implementation of a temporary 30-day ceasefire, which may be extended by mutual agreement, provided that the Russian Federation accepts and implements it simultaneously. The United States will inform Russia that reciprocity is key to achieving peace.

The United States will immediately lift the pause in intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.

The delegations also discussed the importance of humanitarian efforts as part of the peace process, particularly during the proposed ceasefire. These efforts include:

• the exchange of prisoners of war,
• the release of detained civilians,
• and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children.

Both delegations agreed to determine the composition of their negotiating teams and to immediately begin talks to achieve a sustainable peace that guarantees Ukraine's long-term security. The United States committed to discussing these specific proposals with Russian representatives. The Ukrainian delegation reiterated that European partners must be involved in the peace process.

Ultimately, the presidents of both countries agreed to finalize a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible on the development of Ukraine's critical mineral resources, aiming to strengthen Ukraine's economy and ensure its long-term prosperity and security.

Rubio, who headed the US delegation, said that during the negotiations in Jeddah, the American side wanted to hear from Ukraine "what concessions it can make for the sake of peace."

It is worth noting that Ukraine aimed to convince the United States to resume intelligence and military support during the talks in Saudi Arabia. It also sought to demonstrate that the head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, desired a swift end to the war with Russia. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed his expectation of positive outcomes from the then-upcoming talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
