Solutions from Ukraine: Lviv stages plays addressing theme of domestic violence

The Zaporuka Charity Foundation, in collaboration with the Lesya Ukrainka Theater, organized an artistic event showcasing performative readings titled "Woman's Voice in Silence."

The Zaporuka Charity Foundation reported this.

On March 8 and 9, coinciding with the Day of Struggle for Women's Rights, audiences were invited to engage with plays that poignantly tackle the issue of domestic violence against women and their harrowing experiences. The productions, "Frau Kozak's War" and "Stickers," directed by Svitlana Fedeshova and Vasyl Kolisnyk, offer narratives steeped in compelling truths that prompt introspection. These stories delve into the hidden pain behind closed doors while celebrating the empowerment of speaking out and driving change.

After each performative reading, thematic discussions were held with the participation of professional experts from the Breaking the Silence project, representatives of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the creative community of theater and clergy. They discussed not only the plays themselves, but also real ways to overcome violence, because this problem affects everyone.

"These artistic events have become a safe space for frank dialogue. This is how art should talk about complex topics – subtly, emotionally, but at the same time powerfully. And the more people we can involve in this conversation, the closer we will be to society without fear and pain," Yuliia Rudiuk, coordinator of the Breaking the Silence project, notes.
