UAVs attack oil refinery in Russia's Samarov region

On March 10, drones attacked the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation. The enterprise supplies the Russian Armed Forces with fuel and is of great importance to the aggressor country.

The region's governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, local media and the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andrii Kovalenko, reported this.

Astra, referencing accounts from residents, initially reported that loud explosions were heard in the Samara region.

According to preliminary information, the drones attacked the Novokuibyshevsk refinery, part of the Rosneft group.

Telegram channels wrote that a fire was recorded at the enterprise.

The authorities of the Samara region confirmed the information about the attack, but they assure us that it was "unsuccessful." They say three drones were eliminated, "there are no fires, no damage, everything is in normal mode."

Later, a propaganda publication reported that a warehouse with an area of ​​1,500 square meters was on fire in Novokuybyshevsk, Samara region, and there were no injuries. However, it is not known whether this was related to the drone attack.

Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko, reported that drones had indeed attacked the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery.

The lieutenant said that the capacity of this Russian oil refinery reaches 8.8 million tons of oil per year.

Kovalenko notes that this makes the Novokuybyshevsk refinery "one of the ten largest in the Russian Federation."

Andrii Kovalenko also said that the plant produces a wide range of petroleum products that are "critically important for transport and military equipment", including:

  • gasoline,
  • diesel fuel,
  • fuel oil.

"For the Russian army, this refinery is of strategic importance, as it ensures stable fuel supplies for military operations," Kovalenko stated.

He did not disclose information about possible damage.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that during the night, air defense systems allegedly intercepted and destroyed 9 Ukrainian UAVs:

  • three over the Samara region,
  • two each over the Voronezh and Orel regions,
  • one each over the Belgorod and Kursk regions of Russia.

On the night of March 8, unknown drones attacked the KINEF oil refinery in the city of Kirishi in the Leningrad region, damaging the structure of one of the tanks. Explosions were also heard in the Bryansk region.

In addition, in the Russian Federation, in the city of Syzran, Samara region, unknown drones attacked an oil refinery again on the night of March 4. Last year, it was already the target of a UAV attack in March.

Also, on the night of March 3, strike drones attacked the Ufa oil refinery, a fire broke out on the territory of the refinery. Before that, explosions had been heard there, but the authorities did not report a drone attack.
