On the night of March 5, the President of the United States of America Donald Trump made his first speech to Congress since his inauguration and stated that he wants to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war, which he called a "senseless conflict" and an "endless war".

The head of the White House said this during his speech, which Suspilne broadcasted.

According to The American Presidency Project, Trump's speech lasted exactly 100 minutes. It was the longest presidential address to Congress in modern US history.

He also noted that both Russia and Ukraine want to sit at the negotiating table.

"I am also working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in Ukraine. Millions of Ukrainians and Russians have been needlessly killed in this horrific and brutal conflict with no end in sight… The United States has sent hundreds of billions of dollars to Ukraine's defense… do you want to keep it going for another five years?  Ukrainians, not Americans, but I still want it to end," Trump said.

He again mentioned that the United States allegedly spent about $ 350 billion "on the war in Ukraine," which was denied, including in the Pentagon. Europe, according to him, spent much less.

"It turns out that Europe is spending more money on Russian oil and gas than it is on supporting Ukraine. And we spent probably $350 billion, and they spent about $100. What a difference, and we are separated from Europe by an ocean, and Europe is next door. Biden allowed more money to be spent on this war than Europe. We should probably be equal in these expenses, but this has not happened," Trump said.

Trump also said that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which he said that he wanted a lasting peace and was ready to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible.

He quoted Zelensky's message, which he had previously published on the X social network. In it, he said that Ukraine was ready to "work quickly" "under the strong leadership" of US President Donald Trump to end the war.

"I appreciate that he sent this letter a little while ago. Simultaneously, we have received strong signals from Russia that they are ready for peace. Wouldn't that be beautiful?" the US president said.

The President of Ukraine also assured that Ukraine would be ready to sign an agreement on rare earth metals at any time and expressed gratitude to the Americans for their help.

"It's time to stop this madness. It's time to halt the killing. It's time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides," Trump said.

At the same time, the US president did not announce the suspension of military aid to Ukraine by the United States, which became known the day before.

For reference:

As Rubryka reported, US President Donald Trump emotionally criticized the statement of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky that it would take a very long time to end the war with Russia.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said after the security summit in London that he was ready for a new meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump if he invited him to a "constructive dialogue."

Zelensky added that Ukraine is not abandoning the agreement with the US on minerals and is ready to sign it at any time.
