United to win: Irish rock band U2 shows support for Ukraine with reading of Taras Shevchenko poem

On the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Bono, the lead vocalist and guitarist of the Irish rock band U2, recited an excerpt from a poem by Taras Shevchenko.

The musicians published a video on their Instagram page.

Bono, the band's lead singer, was accompanied by piano and performed an excerpt from "To the Dead, the Living, and the Unborn." He noted that this piece is by the great 19th-century poet Taras Shevchenko, who defined the concept of "Ukrainianism."

"Everyone who believes in freedom and feels the danger in which we, Europeans, now find ourselves does not sleep easily on the third anniversary of the invasion," the vocalist noted.

The musician also mentioned that he, along with guitarist and keyboardist Edge, sent a reading of this poem to President Volodymyr Zelensky after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

It should be noted that in May 2022, Irish musician Bono came to Kyiv to support the Ukrainian people.

Bono and a guitarist and backing vocalist, Edge, performed at the Kyiv metro station "Khreshchatyk," particularly with the band Antytila. Their performances have already gone viral on social networks.

As Rubryka reported, actors Liev Schreiber and Angelina Jolie came to Lviv. They had to go down to shelters during air raids.
