United to win: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden announce new aid packages for Ukraine

Denmark is set to allocate 405 million kroner ($56.8 million) for humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Ukraine. Norway will contribute 12.5 billion Norwegian kroner ($1.1 billion), focusing on humanitarian aid and energy security. Meanwhile, the Swedish government announced providing Ukraine with air defense systems valued at 1.2 billion kroner (nearly $113 million).

Denmark

"Three years after Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine is left with a huge need for reconstruction with significant destruction of infrastructure and production facilities," the Danish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that the situation remains "dire," citing a UN estimate that nearly 13 million people in Ukraine will need humanitarian assistance by 2025.

The new aid package will be split:

• Half of the funds will be earmarked for humanitarian aid and will go towards "basic assistance such as food, medicine, water and shelter for Ukrainians in the most affected areas."
• And the other half will go towards recovery efforts.

"Denmark has stated that we will support Ukraine as long as it is needed," Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said.

He added that the aid package brought Denmark's total humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion to more than 1 billion Danish kroner (over $140 million). Military aid from Denmark to Ukraine during this period has reached around $7.5 billion.

Norway

According to the Sweden Herald, citing NTB, Norway will provide Ukraine with 12.5 billion Norwegian kroner ($1.1 billion), which will, in particular, go to humanitarian aid and energy security.

These funds are part of the allocation that the Norwegian parliament approved in November for the Nansen Support Program for Ukraine for 2025:

• 12.5 billion Norwegian kroner will go to civilian and humanitarian support,
• 22.5 billion Norwegian kroner – to military support.

"Both military and civilian needs in Ukraine are enormous. The war has led to great suffering and massive destruction. It is absolutely necessary to continue civilian support for Ukraine," Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in a press release.

Sweden

The Swedish government also announced that it will provide Ukraine with air defense systems worth 1.2 billion Swedish kronor (over $127 million). The funds are part of a Swedish support package worth 13.5 billion Swedish kronor, which was announced in January.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who is visiting Kyiv, said that on Monday, his country will announce the allocation of €100 million to support Ukraine's air defense system.

"For the past three years, the Ukrainian people have been fighting for freedom and security – theirs and ours. Today, we are announcing the allocation of €100 million to support Ukraine's air defense system. Strengthening Ukraine's ability to defend itself from Russian aggression also increases our security," Kristersson wrote on the social network X.

On February 23, Estonia announced that it was providing Ukraine with a new military aid package, including artillery ammunition and food kits for Ukrainian fighters.

Also in mid-February, Germany provided Ukraine with a new military aid package. It includes missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems, Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery mounts, strike and reconnaissance drones, and ammunition.
