“There is no appetite for that” – US Speaker Johnson on new aid for Ukraine

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said there is "no appetite" for adopting a new bill providing large-scale aid to Ukraine.

Mike Johnson said on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Thursday:

"Listen, there is no appetite for that."

This is how the speaker answered the host's question about whether he sees the possibility of adopting a new bill supporting Ukraine if the war drags on.

Johnson addressed this question to the audience, which chanted in unison:

"No!"

At the same time, the Republican speaker noted that this war needs to be ended. According to him, European allies also understand the need for this.

"President Trump is absolutely right; it's time to end this," Johnson noted, adding that the US president can do it.

Although, according to American intelligence, there is currently no evidence that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is ready to seriously engage in peace talks with Ukraine that would not contribute to his maximalist goals of seizing the neighboring country.

However, President Trump continues to believe the Russian dictator, as noted by American media.

Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, was not re-elected on the first ballot. However, he secured the position on the second ballot with the required 218 votes.

Previously, many Republicans expressed dissatisfaction with Johnson's work, particularly that he failed to include in the bill on financing the US government a provision to increase the national debt limit, which in November exceeded $36 trillion for the first time.

At the same time, US President-elect Donald Trump called for support for Johnson, calling him a "hardworking and religious man" who could make the right decisions.

"Mike has my full support. We will continue to win! MAGA!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

It is worth noting that Johnson was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives on October 25, 2023. He became the third youngest speaker in more than a century and had the least experience in Congress of all speakers in the last 140 years.
