Ukrainian athlete Mahuchikh clinches Continental Tour gold medal with season's best world performance

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh won her second consecutive medal since the beginning of the season. The athlete won the "gold" of the Continental Tour indoor stage in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.

Yaroslava began the 2025 international season at a tournament in Udine, Italy, where she won the "gold" with a result of 1.94 m.
Mahuchikh's second start was the Continental Tour stage in Slovakia. The 23-year-old Ukrainian conquered the bar at a height of 2.01 meters, the best result of the current season worldwide.
In Banská Bystrica, the Ukrainian athlete faced a formidable field of titled competitors, including Australia's 2022 world champion and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Eleanor Patterson. Also in contention were Angelina Topych, a two-time European Championship medalist and Diamond League Finals medalist, Britt Veerman, the Euro 2023 indoor silver medalist, and Lilianna Bathory, the U18 European champion.
Clearing 2.01 meters, the athlete set a new world record for the season, marking the first time a high jumper has surpassed two meters this year.
Yaroslava won her fourth career gold medal at a tournament in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.
Mahuchich won her second consecutive medal since the start of the season. The Ukrainian won her previous gold medal at the Udin Jump Development competition in Italy.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh, a native of Dnipro, holds the world record for the high jump. She is also the reigning champion of Ukraine in 2021 and has claimed the titles of European champion in 2022 and 2024 and world champion in 2023.
As a child, she competed in hurdles and long jumps. Her first significant accomplishments on the international stage came in 2018 when she set a record height of 1.94 m and won the European Youth Championship. Then, in May 2019, she became the youngest-ever champion of a Diamond League event. Most recently, she won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
She won twice in the Diamond League finals (2022, 2023). During this year's prestigious competition in Paris, she shattered the world record (2.09 m) previously held by the Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, who is 37 years old. Mahuchikh set a new record at 2.10 m.
In the 2024 season, Mahuchikh achieved several significant milestones:
- she set a new world record in the high jump with a leap of 2.10 meters,
- secured her first Olympic gold medal as well as a European Championship title,
- and successfully defended her title as the Diamond League champion in athletics.
- Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh kicked off her 2025 season by capturing a gold medal at the competition in Italy.
