Ukraine’s defense minister meets with Rheinmetall CEO to discuss joint production of armored vehicles and air defense systems

During the meeting, Defense Minister Rustem Umierov and General Director of the German arms concern Rheinmetall Armin Papperger discussed cooperation in producing air defense systems, ammunition, and armored vehicles.

The minister emphasized that Ukraine is open to exchanging experience with partners, as developing its defense-industrial complex is essential to it.

"Ukraine is ready to create joint ventures, and we already have successful experience of such cooperation. We continue to expand production capabilities together with reliable partners," Umierov noted.

He thanked Papperger for the support of Ukraine and Rheinmetall's readiness to implement new mutually beneficial projects.

As reported, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the CEO of the German company Rheinmetall A,G Armin Papperger.

The key topic of the meeting was the development of joint projects between the Ukrainian and German defense industries. The president noted that increasing investments in Ukraine is important for strengthening European security.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Armin Papperger also discussed expanding technical maintenance and repair cooperation. They particularly considered the possibility of launching joint production of 155-mm ammunition, particularly on Ukraine's territory.

It is important to note that Rheinmetall is actively helping Ukraine in the war against Russia by supplying ammunition and various equipment. In particular, the concern recently received a new order for artillery shells for Ukraine.

As Rubryka previously reported, the Rheinmetall concern will build four weapons production plants in Ukraine, one of which is already operating.

It should be noted that the Federal Antimonopoly Office of Germany allowed Rheinmetall to create a joint venture with Ukraine in late September 2023. The enterprise was reported to be based in Kyiv.

Rheinmetall noted that the Kremlin's threats to intensify the bombing of Ukraine will not affect the German arms company's intentions to build a tank factory in Ukraine.

In February, the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall handed over five more of the latest Caracal assault vehicles to Ukraine.
