Rebuilding Ukraine: Japan allocates $58 mln grant to Ukraine for restoration efforts

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Japan to secure a grant of 8.8 billion Japanese yen, equating to about 58 million dollars.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, stated this during a meeting on February 11.

"These are funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to finance reconstruction projects. I am grateful to Japanese partners for their consistent and unwavering support," he noted.

According to Denys Shmyhal, the government is systematically working to attract additional resources for reconstruction programs based on the "build back better" principle.

In particular, changes in one of them, namely improving logistics capabilities and restoring transport infrastructure, are already being felt by Ukrainian businesses and citizens.

"With the support of our partners, we will strengthen this direction along with other restoration priorities. Housing, energy, critical infrastructure," Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

For reference:

Since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Japan has condemned the aggression and joined international sanctions against the Russian Federation. Tokyo provides Kyiv with financial, humanitarian, and logistical assistance. In particular, Japan has allocated funds to support the Ukrainian economy, infrastructure restoration, and humanitarian needs.

The country also supplies bulletproof vests, drones, vehicles, and demining equipment, although due to constitutional restrictions, it cannot transfer lethal weapons.

It should be noted that Japan will help Ukraine restore and increase the fertility of agricultural land using nanobubbles – a technology for saturating soils with oxygen. The Japan International Cooperation Agency and the KAKUICHI company have joined the project.
